A take on Animation & Gaming education in India

Animation & Gaming education is becoming a big business opportunity in India as A&G is expected to be the next sunrise industry in India after IT & ITES. Many small and large players are hopping in this bandwagon to get a pie of the growing business. But, at the same time even after producing around 2 lac trained professionals per annum studios and development houses are not able to fulfill there meager requirement of 20,000 professionals per annum. Why is it so? Availability of skilled and talented professionals is the most important issue for HR heads at these studios today.

Quality Education!!! is the only solution to us to get rid of this issue. There are “n” number of institutes in A&G education in India but what they sell under the pretext of A&G courses is merely not up-to mark or as per the requirements of the studios. These institutes are here to do business and have only one motto i.e. to garner maximum number of admissions and open maximum number of franchise centers as early as possible. Who bothers or cares if quality is maintained or not that’s the attitude these brands have. It’s not that all the institutes operate in this fashion, there are some good institutes that offer quality education and for them it’s not the quantity but quality that matters the most. In such a scenario parents and students should be more vigilant to see what these institutes offering under these courses. Finding a right institute is the responsibility of the students. Because at the end it’s not the institute it you who as a student/parent suffers the most if the student is not selected or does not get the most promised break.

Here are some pointers that one should look for before enrolling for a course.
a) The content of the course
b) Is the institute taking proper care of laying the foundation for students
c) Is 2D Animation a part of the course (if not in detailed at-least the point where students can get into visualization process). As per the CEO of a well reputed Animation company “Learning 3D Animation without getting a hang of 2D is learning mathematic on calculator”.
d) Are they providing a facility for further specialization
e) Is the staff well trained, do they have professional knowledge
f) Library facility or availability of reference books.

Note: Views expressed here are my personal opinion and are not a binding on anybody. Nor are they a criticizing note to any existing institutes or brands directly or indirectly. This is just a measure or a guidance note for students aspiring to make a career in Animation and Gaming. At the same time I welcome comments from all those people who read this note.
